On Thursday February 17, 2022, the second draw of the year under the Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program (PEI PNP) saw about 123 invitations to apply for immigration to Canada sent out to skilled workers and entrepreneurs.
In the draw, about 117 invitations were issued to Labour Impact and Express Entry candidates while the 6 were issued to Business Impact candidates.
Business Impact candidates required a minimum score of 67 points.
The province launched its Expression of Interest System in 2018 and has made monthly draws ever since but the outbreak of the pandemic in 2020 caused some disruption in the program.

Prince Edward Island Issued a total invitation of 1,955 in 2020 but it reduced to 1,933 invitations in 2021.
Out of the total invitations in 2021, 1,764 invites were issued to the Labour Impact and Express Entry candidates and the remaining 169 were issued to the Business Impact candidates.
The Express Entry category of the PEI PNP considers candidates who are already in the federal Express Entry Pool for a provincial nomination. With the nomination by the province, candidates can get up to 600 points to add to their Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score and this will certainly increase their chances of getting an Invitation to Apply for permanent residence in Canada.
The PEI Express Entry category offer permanent residence in Canada under two pathways which are the one of candidates with a job offer and the one for candidates without a job offer.
PEI Labour Impact Category
Some of the streams under this category are:
- Skilled Worker Stream
This stream allows skilled workers that have job offer from an employer in the province to be nominated to get permanent residence in Canada provided they meet the requirements for the program. Some of the requirements are:
- You must be between 21 to 55 years of age
- You must have a full time job offer from an employer in Prince Edward Island under the National Occupational Classification (NOC) with skill level 0, A or B.
- You must have completed a post-secondary education with a minimum of 14 years of formal education
- You must have at least 2 years of full time work experience in the past 5 years
- You must have sufficient funds to sustain your stay in the province
- You must show language proficiency in English or French
- You must show that you intend to live and settle in Prince Edward Island
- The Critical Worker Stream
This category is designed to help fill up the labour shortages in the province as it is for foreign skilled workers that are already in the province and working in occupations that are in demand in the province.
For you to be eligible for this stream, you must have a full time job offer from an employer in Prince Edward Island under one of the following occupations:
- Customer service representative
- Food and beverage server
- Truck driver
- Housekeeping attendant
- Labourer
You also have to meet some of the following requirements which are:
- You must be between 21 to 55 years of age
- You must have a valid Canadian work permit
- You must have six months of work experience with the organization or company in Prince Edward Island where you are working
- You must have high school diploma and a minimum of 12 years of formal education
- You must have at least two years of full-time work experience in the past five years
- You must have no criminal record
- You must show language proficiency in English or French
- You must have sufficient funds to sustain your stay in the province
- You must demonstrate your intention to settle in the province.
Prince Edward Island Business Impact Category
The Work Permit Stream
If you are apply under the PEI Work Permit Stream, you must obtain a Canadian work permit and work for a business in Prince Edward Island for a certain amount of time as designated in a Performance Agreement
After you must have fulfilled the Performance Agreement, you must make a minimum of about $150,000 investment in the business to commit to managing the business daily from within the province.
The province gave permanent residence directly to immigrants that applied through the business streams but this was stopped in September 2018 due to concerns for immigration fraud.
